Eyes Up Lessons
What to expect at your first lesson
We’ll use your first lesson as an orientation to our barn community. You’ll learn basic horse care, including how to safely groom, tack up, and put your horse away. This basic care for our horses is an important part of our barn culture, and as your level of comfort allows, you’ll be invited to do these tasks independently before/after your scheduled lesson time.
Before you arrive
Before coming to your first lesson, we’ll set up your Square profile, where you’ll receive text message reminders of upcoming appointments. That’s also how we handle billing; you’ll put a card number on file through Square and be charged at the conclusion of each riding lesson.
What to wear
We require that you wear an ASTM approved riding helmet that is fitted by one of our instructors. For your first few lessons, we have some school helmets you can borrow but strongly recommend purchasing your own as soon as possible. Pants and closed toed shoes with a heel are also required. Most of our riders wear paddock boots and half chaps or tall boots, which can be purchased through Amazon, SmartPak, or Dover online.
Lesson Settings
All riders begin in a private setting in order to assess the rider’s skills and match him or her with an appropriate riding partner or group as desired. In a semi-private or group setting, each student is mounted on his or her own horse. The general objective of the group lesson is shared between all riders and is differentiated based on individuals’ skills and goals. The shared experiences in weekly group lessons not only improve our riders’ skills; they also develop a strong sense of comradery and community among our riders.
Lesson Pricing

Our Horses

Oliver
Pony of the Americas
Oliver is a bay Pony of the Americas who is known as “Mr. Horrible” around the farm. He’s as cute as he is rotten, and fun fact: his favorite snack is Doritos (nacho cheese, of course!). Oliver was our first and forever favorite school horse at Eyes Up.

Rosie
Quarter Horse
Rosie is a real peach! She’s as old as the day is long and is the perfect teacher for our young riders to learn to walk, trot, and canter. She’s not always had the best life, so we’re extra sure to give Ms. Rosie all our love and snuggles!

Seven
Thoroughbred
Seven is an old upper level horse who loves to teach our intermediate students to jump. He’s sensitive under saddle and does exactly as he’s told. He’s still competitive at the lower levels of eventing and lights up when he sees a cross country course!

Aspen
Dutch Warmblood
Aspen (also known as “Swamp Donkey”) teaches our students to kick, kick, kick! She feigns laziness, but once she gets going, she can jump the moon! She’s attended multiple jumper shows with our team and is honest and brave. Oh, and she’s pretty!

Hamilton
Hanoverian
Hamilton is the best beginner horse in the whole world (just wait til you see!). In his younger days, he was a hot shot jumper. Currently, he’s enjoying his retirement job of bee-bopping around with our youngest riders.

Indy
Thoroughbred
Indy joined our team with novice Eventing experience and currently competes with our intermediate riders in dressage, cross country, and show jumping. He pretends to be grumpy on the ground but man, is he a joy to ride!
